Walmart’s Support of The Salvation Army This Holiday Season Includes $1 Million Match from Sam's Club
Giving Tuesday match is part of a multichannel approach to meeting local needs in communities across America
ALEXANDRIA, VA. – As millions of families desperately seek relief from the challenges of inflation, eviction, job loss, and the ongoing impacts of the pandemic, Walmart and Sam’s Club are stepping up their community support as Sam’s Club matches donations to The Salvation Army for Giving Tuesday, up to $1 million. This match shows love to people in need across the country this Christmas and beyond.
The match will be applied to the first $1 million in donations made at salarmy.us/SamsClubMatch from Giving Tuesday, November 29, through Friday, December 2, and will help ensure that thousands of families will not have to make difficult choices like paying their light bill or putting presents under the tree.
“Every year, the leadership and associates at Walmart and Sam’s Club come together to support The Salvation Army in a big way,” said Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, national commander of The Salvation Army in the United States. “Just like Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs can be found in nearly every community in America, so can The Salvation Army, and that’s what makes this partnership so meaningful and effective year after year.”
This match builds on the community support from Walmart and Sam’s Club. Walmart has partnered with The Salvation Army to host Red Kettles outside Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs for more than 40 years. Last year, The Salvation Army raised $35.1 million outside Walmart stores and Sam’s clubs, or nearly 1/3 of all Red Kettle funds raised. That’s the equivalent of 27.4 million meals, or Christmas gifts for 468,000 kids.
Walmart and Sam’s Club locations also host The Salvation Army’s Angel Trees, where shoppers can take a tag from the tree near the front of a participating store/Club and buy presents for a child in need in their community. Shoppers can also provide for the Christmas needs of kids and families by purchasing items from The Salvation Army’s online registries at salarmy.us/WalmartAngelTree.
All in all, the support from Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs across the country is vital. The Salvation Army serves more than 25 million people every year because of partnerships like this, making a meaningful impact on many of the 61% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck.
“Without a doubt, The Salvation Army would serve millions fewer people were it not for the graciousness of Walmart and Sam’s Club, and for the generosity of their customers and members who put money in the Red Kettle or buy a few gifts for a child,” said Commissioner Hodder. “Together, they prove every day what it means to love their community beyond situations, hardships, or the challenges of the holidays. I look forward to a remarkable season of giving with our friends at Walmart and Sam’s Club by our side.”
If you are struggling, please reach out to your local Salvation Army for help. If you are in a position to give and would like to contribute, please donate at salarmy.us/SamsClubMatch, or donate to a Salvation Army Angel Tree in-store or online.
