STORY of HOPE: Northern Virginia Adult Rehabilitation Center Receives Mass COVID-19 Vaccinations
FAIRFAX, Va. (March 5, 2021) As COVID-19 vaccinations become more widely available across the United States, The Salvation Army is doing its part to help administer vaccines to those who are already at risk. This week, beneficiaries and employees received COVID-19 vaccinations at The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Northern Virginia.
“We are so grateful to Fairfax County for providing COVID-19 vaccines for the 148 beneficiaries and staff who chose to be vaccinated,” said Major Dawn McFarland.
Because The Salvation Army ARCs offer residential treatment, it is essential that beneficiaries and staff are vigilant to prevent an outbreak of COVID-19. Many of the residents are at an increased risk of severe or deadly COVID-19 symptoms due to pre-existing illnesses and age. The ARC is often the only place to go for individuals struggling with addiction who do not have the financial means for expensive treatment centers.
“The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center strives to be a part of healing for those we serve, be it spiritual, mental or physical,” said Major Paul McFarland.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army’s ARCs have worked diligently to continue providing treatment to those struggling with addiction, despite having to shut down their primary source of revenue—Family Stores—for mandatory lockdowns across the country. As we near the end of this crisis, The Salvation Army remains dedicated to working with local, state and federal officials to keep its personnel and those it serves safe and healthy.
